What to Expect on your Offshore Adventure
Here are some recommendations
to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable fishing trip! If you are traveling from outside of the Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater area please call us the day prior to your fishing trip to confirm your reservation. Many factors are considered the day before a trip such as weather and sea conditions that may affect your reservation.
It is a good idea to eat a good meal and get plenty of rest the night before your trip. Hangovers, summer heat/sun and/or semi-rough seas make for a very long day.
You will need to bring your own lunch and beverages or you may arrange to have something brought aboard. Please arrange the day before your trip.
You may also want to bring along sunscreen, a sweater/sweatshirt for the cool evening ride home, Dramamine (for seasickness), and hand towels. Please wear soft soled / non-marking shoes. Deck shoes or white soled sneakers are preferred if possible.
Do NOT bring:
- GPS, LORAN, or any other type of positioning device—this is taken seriously!
- Hard liquor (beer is acceptable in cans)
- Drugs or paraphernalia of any kind (this includes marijuana)
- Weapons of any kind
If you have never been Deep Sea Fishing before, it is a good idea not to touch or handle an unfamiliar fish. We have very experienced mates on board to assist you throughout the day.
Please help the mate keep the boat safe and shipshape by putting trash, cigarette butts, food, bait etc. in the appropriate place. In other words- Treat the boat as if it were your own!
Sea Sickness: If you have ever been sea sick before or think you may become sea sick and want to take Dramamine please do not take it the day of your fishing trip--it's too late! In order for Dramamine to be effective, it must be in your system prior to your fishing trip. Take small doses 1 or 2 days prior to your fishing trip and none the day of your fishing trip. It has been our experience that taking Dramamine the morning of your trip tends to make matters worse, 99% of the time you still get sick.
If you feel you are going to be sick, please do not use the head (restroom); go to the back of the boat. Doing this will help keep others from becoming sick. Besides, FISH LOVE A GOOD CHUM SLICK! Do not be embarrassed, even big tough marines get seasick!
When to Arrive
Arrive approximately 15-20 minutes prior to your departure (7:00am) to allow the crew to be acquainted with everyone and figure out what species to target. Once on our way, the Captain or the mate will go over the proper fishing techniques to be used.
Travel Time to Fishing Grounds
We are extremely lucky when fishing out of Cudjoe Key (May, June), as there is relatively deep water in close proximity to land. On the West Coast of Florida (Tarpon Springs), the Gulf of Mexico is shaped like a saucer and the distance to travel to catch large fish is greater the average depth drops off 2.25 feet of water for every mile traveled off land.
Weather Conditions
South Florida climate is warm year round. Temperatures range from 70 to 90 degrees, and the average wind speed is 10-15mph. Frequent cloud cover makes it pleasant while fishing and an occasional shower will cool off the air. The average sea conditions are 1 to 3 foot seas. The West Coast is much the same in the summer. The spring is delightful as well as in the fall after the heat breaks. The winters can be a bit unpredictable as cold fronts push down from the north and west and cross the gulf. Seas can be a bit more challenging during this time, but this is Florida and we do have our share of excellent winter fishing days.
Maximum Allowance of People:
No Rules caters to you catching fish and although we can carry a maximum of 6, we limit the fishing party to four adults for maximum client satisfaction. Or, four adults and 2 children.
